Shirley Buckert, born and raised in Alice, Texas, moved to Victoria in 1963. After graduating from Wm. Adams High School in Alice in 1960, she attended Baylor University, Texas A & I and in 1975 received her Associates Degree from Victoria College. After entering real estate in 1980 she obtained her GRI (Graduate of the Real Estate Institute), CRS (Certified Residential Specialist), CRB (Certified Residential Broker), and C-CREC (Consumer-Certified Real Estate Consultant). She has been a licensed Real Estate Broker in the state of Texas since 1982.
Community involvement became a high priority with Shirley when she got into real estate. She was on the Board of Directors of Crime Stoppers from 1984-1990. The Victoria Chamber of Commerce has always had a special place in her heart, serving as Chairperson of the Newcomers Committee 1992-94, Membership
Committee Chair 1994-95 and Board of Directors from 1992-95.
Shirley was an active Rotarian from 1991-1998. Serving as President of Sunrise Rotary Club 1996-97, she was the first woman president of a local Rotary organization.
Shirley also had the pleasure of serving as City Council Member representing the central & eastern portion of the city in District 4. She served three terms and retired from public service in May, 2006. While on City Council she served on the Metropolitan Planning Organization where she was Chairperson.
Shirley's professional affiliations include the Victoria Board of Realtors, where she served in many capacities. She has served as President of the
Women’s Council of Realtors, 1984-85, MLS Committee Chair, 1984-85, Education Committee Chair, 1985-86, and Orientation Committee Chair, 1986-87, and Membership Chairman in 2002, Vice President of the Board in 2003-04 and Education Chair 2005-06. On the state level, Shirley has been a member of the Professional Standards Committee 1984-87, Legislative Committee 1997-2000, Relocation Task Force, 2000.
In her “off hours”, Shirley is actively involved at Parkway Church. She and Arthur own a “5th Wheel R.V." and make several short trips a year. She enjoys baking goodies, playing the piano, but most of all, spending time with her grandchildren and two Chihuahua “boys”, Roscoe and Rufus.
